Interesting and insightful. The feature is a series of several folks who died this year ... the others are really interesting, as well.

Oh, this is a wonderfully thoughtful piece! I'm not sure how I feel about the conclusions, but after an "Annual Roundup Season" whose lists of "notable passings" relegate Bob Culp to a footnote, it's like a tonic to read a strong and meaty piece about his impact on the world.

Toward the end of an epic, three-hour interview Culp gave for the Archive of American Television in 2007, he was asked, "Is there anything you regret?" And Culp replied, his expression and voice devastated, that he is deeply afraid that it will be like I Spy never happened.

Anthony Giardina goes a long way toward convincing me that Bob needed not fear.

I'm still too gutted to make it all the way through that interview ...

{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Really. truly.

...but I think you're right. Bob shouldn't have worried -- even if contemporary TV still hasn't gotten the race thing any better then they did 45 years ago.

not 'even if' - 'especially as'. It's just never been matched.

Lovely, if absolutely heartbreaking piece. (Of course, the reason Kelly, as opposed to Culp, when you do read down to the end of that piece, the reason Kelly didn't show emotion as much as he might have done is because he was saving it all for Scotty, and the occasional special girl, when the cameras went off...) ;-)

It was very interesting to read - I never thought about Robert Culp like that. Yet I disagree with the sentence "it wasn’t enough to sleep with girls; you had to learn to express emotion too".

I think Robert Culp was an absolutely great actor, and he was able to show emotions without overacting, just with a little bit of facial expression showing so much... I remember the second Sam-episode, when he makes a telephone call to her. When he came back to the other people sitting outside, he showed two layers of emotion at the same time - the hate and an extreme self control. There aren't many actors with such a talent.

Erm... seems I'm the only one who doesn't know where to look for the long interview with Robert Culp... could please someone tell me where I can find it?

I found the interview - on the "Unofficial Website", thanks to the "I Spy Forum"!
